This
week I had the opportunity to sit down with a couple of experts here at Pyxis Mobile. We’ll be speaking with Pyxis Mobile president and CTO Todd
Christy and Pyxis Mobile’s director of software, Arun Nagarajan. I set out on a
mission to pick their brains about what is going on in the mobile industry and
where 2010 will bring us. I found out that it’s true, great minds DO think
alike!
Today,
we start the week with a discussion about Apple’s newest gadget: the iPad.
There has been a lot of talk about the iPad since its announcement to the
world. What can it be used for? Who will use it? Why do we want one? How is it
different? The past couple of weeks, the internet has been abuzz with answers
to these questions. However, no one will really know who’s right until it is
released and being used by the public.
Wall
Street & Technology asked Todd Christy what he thought of the iPad in a
January 28th blog post. “The device’s rich text, enhanced
reader application, combined with a large bright screen and embedded video,
make it a great tool for presentations,” Todd points out.
When
I sat down with Todd, he reiterated his position. “This new gadget will find
its way into the world of business and enterprise mobility. It opens scenarios
where business projects can be collaborative; where you and your client, for
example, can be side-by-side working together on a portfolio.” Todd describes
the iPad as being “interactive and visual.” It offers the customer a different
relationship and a different perspective.
Arun
thought very similarly. He mentioned that “the iPad will be a success, but not
right away like the iPhone.” He looks forward to seeing what interesting
applications will make its way onto the iPad and especially those that are not
related to media or entertainment. He thinks the iPad will have primary enterprise
success in a couple of key industries: higher education and health care.
“Instead of seeing doctors with a pad and paper, maybe we’ll see them carrying
around an iPad.” Although, he thinks that traditional media currently designed
for the iPhone might have a difficult time changing over to the iPad
development. Arun hopes to see Pyxis Mobile create software that will provide
an easy coding solution for iPad development.

back tomorrow for part two in this interview series: The Mobile OS faceoff…
